Playing with Light

I was meeting up with Bondwoman for a drink prior to going to a fiddle concert last Friday evening, and as I was somewhat early and had my point and shoot camera in my pocket I thought I would take a few night shots at the junction of North Bridge and Princes Street. Basically I just wanted to see how easy, or difficult, it was to capture the movement, light and sheer busyness of the early (around6 – 6:30pm) Friday evening. My thinking was that if successful I would head up with my ‘proper’ camera and get some better shots; at the end of the day this will be the case, as I think that the results from my pocket sized G10 were worthy of the few minutes spent taking them. The resulting photos needed cropping to get rid of all of the extraneous black areas that were devoid of light, and to focus on the light and movement; below are the best results of this effort:-

The thing which amazed me most was the amount of colour I managed to capture, but most of all I think that the amount of light and movement in these images makes for some very interesting photos.

    • Thanks for the kind words Karine. Personally the urban environment fascinates me, and I like to try and capture its varying moods, whether it be in candid shots, or with the hustle and bustle, as here. As I said in the post, this was an experiement, and I am looking forward to making a much more professional attempt quite soon.
